Abu Dhabi, UAE, 06 December 2020: Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council signed a memorandum of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Police General Command aiming to exchange experiences in the field of safety, quality and conformity, in line with the emirate’s strategy aimed at improving society and creating a community environment that enables it to achieve its goals and aspirations.
His Excellency Dr. Hilal Al Kaabi, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, confirmed that the memorandum falls within the framework of joint cooperation and the two parties ’keenness to develop work between them with the aim of exchanging experiences, training, consultations and knowledge in terms of policies and regulations for information technology, providing public services, consumer safety, legal standards, conformity programs and laboratory tests. Through the application of the latest international standards and standards in quality and conformity.
Al-Kaabi said: “According to the memorandum, and in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police General Command, we continue to enhance the culture of product quality and safety, by coordinating awareness campaigns for employees about product safety and society through the website, in order to reduce the circulation of non-conforming products that pose a risk to consumers and to make markets safer”.
For his part, Major General Khalifa Muhammad Al Khaili, Director of the Financial and Services Sector at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, said: “The memorandum aims to encourage customers of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters to use products and services that have a certificate of conformity by the Abu Dhabi Quality Council.”
He explained that the memorandum aims to benefit from the available examination services, specialized training and technical consultations, and joint cooperation to develop security specifications, use the emergency management and public safety facilities affiliated to the purposes of training, and to develop matching programs by the Emergency and Public Safety Department or any other department in the General Command.
He added: “We will work with the Abu Dhabi Quality Council in everything related to the safety, quality and conformity of products, including setting up programs and determining the requirements for granting confidence marks, issuing certificates of conformity of products, licensing the use of these marks, granting certificates of conformity to individuals, and procedures for inspection and monitoring, auditing of products and taking samples from the source or Markets and sales outlets, conducting product testing, and establishing relevant training programs and certification standards for technicians, and professionals”.
“The Bureau is taking all necessary actions to monitor local products that compete with imported ones in the market, and is working in cooperation and coordination with the QCC and other relevant authorities to develop and improve the quality of these products and ensure their continued availability in the market,” the Undersecretary of ADDED noted.
Al Balooshi clarified that a number of mandatory conformity schemes have already been launched including the cement products conformity scheme, which aims to bolster the quality of local cement products and ban the use of low-quality cement in construction and development projects. This scheme was implemented in cooperation with strategic partners including the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and Musanada.
“The existing technical standards related to interlocking tiles was also amended under this scheme to reduce the required standards while preserving the quality of the product and reducing the financial cost for the producing factories.
We have also coordinated with the Environment Agency (EAD) and representatives of the plastic industry sector to set technical standards for multi-use plastic bag products, which are witnessing growing domestic and foreign demand, to support the multi-use bags policy launched in March 2020 by the EAD,” Al Balooshi stated.
He went on to say that the ADDED’s Bureau in cooperation with relevant bodies has submitted a request concerning the mandatory standards that must be made available in face masks and surface sterilizers. Accordingly, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) issued a nation-wide binding decision on these mandatory standards early this year to maintain the quality of these products given they are witnessing an increasing demand.
