Abu Dhabi, November 17, 2021: The Drugs and Medical Devices Laboratory of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) has been instrumental in ensuring the quality of pharmaceuticals and medical devices through foolproof control and verification mechanisms.


In a statement, Eng. Abdulla Hassan Al-Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory , said the laboratory has conducted thousands of tests so far catering to a client base of 127 companies across the UAE and supporting regulatory authorities in ensuring good laboratory (GLP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP).

The laboratory’s testing services and capability spans different types of medical devices, antibiotics, lifesaving drugs, hormonal formulations, injections etc. 

Apart from testing services, the lab also conducts post-market surveillance, stability checks on medicines, checks on adulteration and other impurities, fake medicine claims and comparisons between patent and generic medicines.

“All tests conducted by the lab are internally developed and validated and based on the latest internal pharmacopoeia.  The lab also supports international drug recalls when notified of NDMA contaminants in sensitive drugs. The lab also helps manufacturers improve drug quality as well as in formulations thereby ensuring the quality and safety of medicines,” Abdulla said. 

He stated that in the case of TAT, it varies from project to project and could range from three to 15 days.  In emergency cases like COVID tests, results can also be provided on the same day. testing services take up from 4 hours to a full day depending on the type of test and accuracy. The lab caters to both government and private entities, including ministries and departments of health, he added.
