ABU DHABI, 29 June 2021: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) said it has issued 60 certificates of conformity for outdoor lighting from January 2019 to June 2021, as part of an LED outdoor lighting conformity program.
QCC said the programme was in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the first ever unified energy plan to balance energy production and consumption within the imperatives of global environmental obligations and sustainable growth.
Engineer Badr Khamis Al Shamili, Director of Conformity Assessment Services Department, while stressing the Council’s role in the energy sector of Abu Dhabi said that the LED conformity programme focused on lighting the roads, tunnels and public facilities such as parks and sports fields, and verification of their safety and energy efficiency.
Highlighting the returns from the programme to the national economy, he said that it attracted investors conforming to global standards and energy conservation norms to the energy efficient lighting industry.
He said the positive impacts of the programme also included low energy consumption costs and avoidance of risks to society from lighting that does not conform to international specifications and standards. Moreover, the programme also helped rationalize energy consumption in general, while paving the way for sustainable and quality infrastructure to support vital sectors of Abu Dhabi, enhancing the emirate’s competitiveness.
He said the implementation mechanisms of the programme included working with competent authorities based on team spirit and cooperation, bringing people from the conformity and specifications services sector and regulatory authorities under one umbrella. The teams also hold periodic meetings to verify results and progress, ensuring compatibility with the best-in-class international standards. These actions have resulted in increasing the number of lighting products with conformity certificates in the market as well as encouraging outdoor lighting suppliers to obtain conformity certificates.
QCC’s conformity services sector was keen to activate the programme across sectors with the aim of supporting public and private sector partners, in turn contributing to the development of their work processes, raising quality and safety standards as well as the efficiency of workers.
Through periodic oversight, QCC also ensures the continuity of conformity of the products that have been certified by random sampling across the market and monitoring, he said.
