Abu Dhabi, UAE 16/03/2021: The Central Testing Laboratory of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) announced that it has deployed a mobile laboratory for onsite checking of the quality, hygiene and safety of food items, including water, offered by food outlets at Al Hudayriat Island.

In a statement, QCC said the new mobile food laboratory service has been activated in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, as part of a food inspection campaign to check the safety of food items offered by about 20 mobile food outlets stationed at the Island.
“The mobile food check units will augment the laboratory’s services in ensuring the safety of food items and protect members of the community by providing them assurance on the quality of the food they consume,” said Eng. Abdullah Hassan Al-Maeeni, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory of QCC.

He said Al Hudayriat initiative follows a successful implementation of onsite mobile laboratory food sample checks during the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2021) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in February this year. The mobile laboratory service has been launched as part of QCC’s partner programme to support food regulators as well as catering and food products’ companies.

“The mobile laboratory is an effective and innovative tool QCC has added to its list of services it provides to its partners. The aim is to bring flexibility to food inspection services since mobile laboratory units can be deployed at various locations of Abu Dhabi as and when needed.  It is also equipped with sophisticated, high-speed and approved food inspection and analyses equipment and visitors to Al Hudayriat Island can be assured of the health and safety of the food they consume from the outlets,” Eng. Abdullah Hassan Al-Maeeni said.

Apart from supporting onsite food inspection campaigns, mobile laboratory services could also be leveraged for health campaigns in partnership with regulatory authorities to improve the quality of life, safety and happiness of the residents of Abu Dhabi, he said.

“The mobile laboratory services is in line with our broader strategic vision to enhance community happiness. It can provide microbiological analyses services with the help of latest technology to ensure that the food offered to public conforms to quality norms. It is also equipped with skilled staff trained in microbiology analyses, and the tests will be conducted under the supervision of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Agriculture and Food Safety,” Eng. Abdullah Hassan Al-Maeeni said.

The Central Testing Laboratory provides testing and conformity assessment services to government agencies in Abu Dhabi in partnership with regulatory and supervisory authorities across various industry verticals. The inspections cover food and food products, water and other beverages, in addition to cosmetics, medicines, medical devices and building materials.  The laboratory also conducts environmental checks as well as scientific research services, consultancy, specialized training services, and issuance of conformity certificates.
