ABU DHABI, 14 August: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) issued 3,981 calibration certificates for aligning the sequence of devices used in the UAE with the international system of units, and completed 422 inter-comparison reports on the efficiency and effectiveness of the calibration services provided by national and regional laboratories in the first half of 2022.

Through the Emirates Metrology Institute, the Council during the period prepared 110 specialized reports on local and regional measurement and clocked 1,260 hours of training.

In a media briefing at the Institute’s headquarters in Masdar City, His Excellency Saeed Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Emirates Metrology Institute highlighted the Council’s keenness to enhance quality and upgrade and develop the production capacity of local industries by sharing technical expertise in measurement with specialists and industry owners.

Al Muhairi said the Emirates Metrology Institute aims to provide a measurement reference for Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general making accuracy as an important technical requirement to enhance  competitiveness and to increase confidence in the local economy with openness to global markets.

He said that the Institute provides many metrological services to clients and strategic partners in the public and private sector, and the region, in highly efficient measurement and calibration services and technical ability, contributing to achieving sustainability of the industrial sector, in turn impacting positively on economic performance in general.

The Institute’s technical consultations and specialized technical training services across sectors are important elements in its scope of work with strategic partners. This supports partners' strategy and help them achieve their desired goals.

Al Muhairi said that QCC through the Institute, contributed to the achievement of the UAE being ranked first in the leadership of inter-comparisons at the regional level, Al Khaleeji in publishing measurement and calibration capabilities /CMC's/ in the database of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).

The Institute has published six new measurement and calibration capacities, bringing the total number of published capacities to 10, supporting local products access global markets with enhanced competitiveness.

Al Muhairi said that the Institute’s keenness to participate in international metrological meetings and forums across the world led it to lead the technical committees in the Gulf assembly and chair the secretariat of two technical committees during the activities of the Gulf Metrology Assembly Week.  The Institute also presented a quality management system for the Gulf assembly in the European assembly, as well as in the `Net Carbon Dioxide Flow Measurement Research’ workshop and the digital transformation workshop organized by the Liquid Flow Technical Committee of the Asian Community.

He stressed the priority of investing in national cadres and qualifying them through specialized courses from across the world. The Institute’s goal is to increase the Emiratization rate to 100% within three years from the current 83%, he added.
