ABU DHABI, October 5th, 2021: The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) today said that it has developed advanced testing procedures to detect pesticide residues in eggs, as part of supporting food security and consumer safety in Abu Dhabi.
The testing for eggs have been specifically introduced since it is one of the main food items consumed by all age groups, QCC said, adding that the Central Testing Laboratory has always been stressing the importance of developing testing programs to ensure the quality of food products traded in the market, to protect consumers from pesticide residues and other pollutants.
His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Hassan Al-Maaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory said that the pesticide residue analysis service is provided using the latest and fastest scientific processes. In the case of eggs, pesticide residue analysis is done with high accuracy complying with the Abu Dhabi standards.
He said the laboratory accords top priority for continuous verification of the conformity of products to mandated specifications. Apart from eggs, the laboratory offers testing services for various food commodities, including vegetables, fruits, dates, grains, meat, fish, honey, baby food, drinking water etc.…. The laboratory also continues to expand the scope of work to include more products under its testing services as well as to detect various types of pesticides.
Eng. Al-Maaini said the laboratory now has the ability to detect about 443 pesticide residues which includes insecticides, a diverse range of herbicides, fungicides, anti-bacterials and insect and plant growth regulators. The service is enabled by the global technology procedure, QuEChERS, which is known for speed and accuracy and guaranteed results quality.
The Central Testing Laboratory provides a host of testing services for quality and safety across a wide variety of verticals spanning food products, water and beverages, cosmetics, medicines, medical devices, and building materials, apart from environmental checks. It also conducts specialized training and issue conformity certificates.
